Oxford Innovation (OI) is seeking a Regional Director to play a key role in the development of a cluster of six Innovation Centres in Wellingborough, Harborough and Nottinghamshire.  This role will lead on regional development for Oxford Innovation in the region around Wellingborough and Market Harborough and will work in partnership with the Regional Director based in Barnsley to support the centres in Nottinghamshire (Worksop, Mansfield and Newark).

The successful candidate will have a a strong marketing and business development record, solid background and experience in a relevant science or technology sector, and proven ability to win and lead work from clients in the field of innovation management. 

The role will be based at Wollaston, Wellingborough where we are managing a small innovation centre on the Scott Bader campus. Growing and developing this relationship (account management) will be a key component of the role.

Reporting to:                     Marketing and IC Development Director

Key Deliverables:

  • Develop and actively engage with a strong network of economic development contacts within the region. Promote and develop the Innovation centre offer through this network
  • Provision of high quality, credible business incubation support to client and virtual companies at the innovation centres, signposting to external provision as appropriate
  • Working with the centre teams to ensure the innovation centres exceed revenue, economic development and enterprise targets
  • Working with partners, ensure that a programme of relevant sector events is held at the innovation centres
  • Proactively promote and market Oxford Innovation and SQW Group
  • Demonstrate that businesses are more successful as a result of the package of support from the Innovation Centre offer provided by Oxford Innovation
  • Build a strong alumni network for companies that have successfully graduated from the Innovation Centres
  • Seek and secure new business opportunities for the operation of business and innovation centres in the East Midlands

 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Business development

  • Building upon existing capability, expertise and contacts take strategic leadership of business development for Oxford Innovation in the East Midlands
  • Build the Scott Bader relationship from a small Innovation Centre to private sector, research based, Science Park. If successful this will be an exemplar for developing relationships with other major corporates.
  • Build and leverage networks in key strategic sectors and markets
  • Leading the preparation of high quality proposals

 

Marketing/promotion

  • Contributing to the Innovation Centre  marketing activities
  • Proactively seeking opportunities to promote Oxford Innovation and the Innovation centres, e.g. presentations at high profile events

 

Project management

  • Compiling quarterly monitoring and management reports to clients and attending review meetings with other senior managers in Oxford Innovation
  • Writing professional, high quality reports
  • Dealing with client and centre issues confidentially with an awareness of political sensitivities

 

Other

  • Managing interfaces with other teams within SQW Group, in particular Innovation Services and SQW Consulting in Leeds, Manchester and Cambridge
  • Active and enthusiastic contribution to the development of OI’s Business and Innovation Centres Division and the wider SQW Group

 

Person specification:

  • Wide range of experience within business support and economic development
  • A passion for innovation and technology
  • Strong personal networks and well developed relationship building skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong analytical and writing capabilities
  • Extensive project management experience
  • The ability to win and lead work from new and existing clients
